Built on Family Values, Driven by Industry Excellence

Established in 1999, Nordem Demolition is a family owned business led by Director Paul Rolfe, specialising in a broad spectrum of demolition services. These include structural demolition, soft strip works, and non-licensed asbestos removal.

With a dedicated in-house fleet of vans, wagons, and specialist demolition plant, Nordem maintains an agile, fully equipped operation. The company typically employs a team of 30+ skilled operatives, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness across all projects.

Operating across a wide geographical area, from the Scottish Borders to North Yorkshire and coast to coast across the North East, Nordem delivers demolition solutions for a diverse client base. Projects range from minor internal strip outs to full scale demolition and site clearance. The company is proud to support many of the region’s leading construction firms on both commercial and industrial contracts.

Delivering Training with
a Job at the
Finish Line

In response to a growing demand for skilled demolition operatives, Nordem, a prominent employer in the demolition sector has teamed up with Orangebox to bridge the gap between training and employment. This collaboration is already changing lives, providing learners with the qualifications, experience, and opportunities they need to build long-term careers in the construction industry.

The relationship between Orangebox and Nordem began with a shared vision: to close the gap between training and employment. Recognising a shortage of qualified demolition operatives, Nordem sought a training partner that could not only deliver industry-relevant courses but also identify and prepare dedicated individuals for immediate job placements.

For the past few months, Orangebox representatives Ellie (right) and Imogen (left) have been pivotal in building this connection. Their presence on-site and personal rapport with both learners and the employer, Paul (centre), has laid the foundation for a program that’s as much about trust as it is about training.

Equipping Learners with Essential certifications

Orangebox’s construction training programme, delivered by two of our experienced trainers Paula and Matt, is designed to be thorough, practical, and immediately applicable on site. The course is held in Sunderland, and thanks to the strength of the partnership, Nordem generously provides the training venue free of charge.

Each course accommodates approximately 12 learners, with the third cohort now in progress, indicating strong and growing demand. The goal is for these courses to run continuously, ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified, work-ready candidates for Nordem.

Learners completing the course achieve several critical certifications that enable them to step directly into demolition roles:

  • CCDO Card  – essential for working on-site in the demolition sector.
  • UKATA-Accredited Asbestos Awareness Certificate – an industry recognised requirement for working safely around asbestos.
  • Face Fit Test Certification – confirming correct use of respiratory protective equipment, which learners can carry into their new roles.

This package of qualifications ensures that each learner is fully compliant with safety standards and ready for real-world demands.

Guaranteed job opportunities

What truly sets this programme apart is Nordem’s employment guarantee. Paul, a leading figure at Nordem, has committed to offering job opportunities to every learner who completes the course, as long as they demonstrate dedication and a willingness to work.

This employment first model is a game changer for participants. It removes the uncertainty many job seekers face after training and replaces it with a clear, supported path to meaningful employment. For learners who may have previously struggled with access to the workforce, this represents a real opportunity for transformation.

Though the programme is still in its early stages, success stories are already emerging. Learners who once faced limited employment prospects are now gaining qualifications, experience, and jobs, all within a matter of weeks. The momentum is building, and with each course, Orangebox and Nordem are refining the process, for a more impactful end goal.
