United Team

Eden Farm Hulleys stands as a national leader in frozen food, ice cream, and chilled wholesale distribution. With nine strategically located depots and a fleet of over 150 delivery vans, the company provides six-day-a-week service with next-day delivery capabilities where possible. Their commitment to excellent customer service, competitive pricing, and regular promotional offers has positioned them as a trusted supplier to businesses ranging from independent shops to major high street brands.

Orangebox Training Solutions stepped in and designed a bespoke professional development workshop centred on “Working Smarter, Not Harder”, focusing on team development. The programme was bespoke made to address Eden Farm Hulleys’ needs, with an emphasis on creative problem-solving and collaboration between departments. The programme was designed around four sessions, once a week, over at the Peterlee site.

WORKING SMARTER, NOT HARDER

Eden Farm Hulleys identified a critical workplace challenge, workplace segmentation was creating barriers to collaboration and efficiency. Staff from the cold storage warehouse rarely interacted with their administrative counterparts, despite their interdependent roles in the company’s operations. Management recognised that bridging this gap was essential for improving workflow, workplace satisfaction, and ultimately, business growth.

The workshop was led by Nick Mawson from Orangebox Training Solutions, who created a relaxed environment where participants felt comfortable speaking openly. The workshop intentionally brought together staff who had never formally met despite working for the same company. This created immediate opportunities for connection and perspective-sharing that wouldn’t have occurred otherwise.

Core Values
to Creative Solutions

A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to discussions about company culture. Participants explored Eden Farm Hulleys’ core values and how these values manifested differently across departments. The workshop included sharing personal connections to these values, with one long-serving employee, Lisa Horne, describing her passion for watching the company grow since day one.

The group engaged in exercises designed to approach familiar challenges from new angles. By sharing department-specific obstacles and brainstorming across traditional boundaries. The most immediate and visible outcome was the formation of genuine connections between staff members who had previously operated in isolation from each other. These relationships have created informal channels for ongoing communication and collaboration between each other.

The workshop reinforced core values while making them more actionable in daily operations. Participants now view company growth as a shared responsibility, with each person playing a vital role regardless of department.
